Basketball Season Already?!
10:45a.m.
Phone: Ring,ring,ring
Me: Hopping out of the shower, dripping wet, hoping that I am not already late for something that I probably forgot!! Which happens just about everyday.
Kiki: Sitting and waiting. She asks to me again, "Are you done now mom?"
Me: Not yet. Shaving cream dripping down my one leg left I am trying to mow from days of personal neglect. I jump over the girls and leap for the phone.
Phoenix: Still fussy, but not yet crying...
Me: "Hello?" As I drip water all over the receiver, hoping to be electrocuted! But there are no lucky breaks today.
Tim: "What are you doing right now?"
Me: "Nothing, why?" If I tell him the truth, well let's just say I will never hear the end of all the sexual innuendos, so I skip this part because the opportunity to shave my other leg in time before Phoenix goes totally crazy is ticking away.
Tim: "Oh I just called to say that I love you."
Me: Right here is when I know that he has a plan for me today.
"How's work, not to busy huh?"
Tim: "Not really.I'll probably be home around 5:30 tonight."
Me: What day is it? He NEVER volunteers to come home early. Wait a minute. It's October....and before I can even think it, he says it!
Tim: "Honey, tonight the Suns are playing on ESPN2 at 6:00, can you record the game just in case I get stuck in traffic?"
Me: Which I know is not entirely true. This man would ride over pedestrians, on the shoulder of the freeway, taking out old people or small children, just to get home in time for a pre-season basketball game. Its true.No really.
Tim: "Do you see it on EPSN2?"
Me: Like I am sitting glued to the tube 24 hours a day, eating bon-bons. Waiting to record the Suns game for him! "Yes I see it." I lie. Just to get back in the shower, because Phoenix starting to cry.I am no where near the t.v. and if I was I am sure I would lose the battle to watch whatever I want to either a pricess movie or Spongebob.
Tim: "Thanks honey, see you at 5:30"
Me: "Love you to.Bye."
In an instant he is gone. And yes I did record the game. I have become really good at doing it. I am a professional ESPN recorder for the Suns games. I have been doing it since we were married 4 years ago.It is his passion, I love that, but not in a Fever Pitch(movie with Drew Barrymore and that guy from SNL,what's his name again?) kind of way.
And to be totally honest, I had already set the t.v. to record the game even before he asked me too. What?!
SAN DIMAS FOOTBALL TOTALLY ROCKS!!
Uhmm, Heather, I am a little concerned.
ReplyDeleteYou finished your shower before recording the Sun's game?
What in the world were you thinking?
The correct move was to hustle downstairs and set the Tivo.
Oh, then watch the actual game to make sure it is really recording.
That was a very funny post; keep up the good blog work!
later,
Joe
Funny and true! A killer combo.
ReplyDeleteNo more lying about shower time...I try to time that call to catch you!
